A rather clunky-looking 78 player, made in 1941. It has an AM radio so that you can tune into the world of religious cranks, sports fanatics and right-wing blowhards. The turntable motor is engaged by lifting the tonearm and guiding it towards the turntable. To switch the motor off, one pushes the tonearm to the right, past its rest. The original cartridge was a crystal one, now replaced by a Sonotone. Silvertone was a subsidiary of Sears, created in 1916 to promote their electrical products. The line ceased in 1972.
