From the early 1950s, this is one of the best record players out there for playing vintage 78s, 45s and LPs. It has a tube amp, that has had all its old capacitors replaced, it has a P228 cartridge with 78 and 33/45 flip over style, a 12" speaker with a very long cord, at least 25 feet. There is a provision for an extra speaker. There is a tracking adjustment on the tone arm that can be switched to 'Standard' (78) of 'Fine' (microgroove 45 and 33). Not only will this player play the normal 7", 10" and 12" discs, it will also play 16" transcription discs which regular phonographs cannot. These 16" discs were made for radio stations and can be found now and then. Many collectors own a few but are unable to play them. With the Newcombe TR-16 A one can. Once you have played 78s or 45s from the 50s on this, you will never want to go back to another player. These players were made for institutional use, to be played in large rooms and halls, hence the long speaker cord and the provision for an extra speaker. These babies are LOUD! The speaker is in the lid, as can be seen in the photos, and is designed to be set apart from the player. Possibly the only minus with this unit is the staining on the platter. It is possible to re-flock the platter - something I have never done. However, this is cosmetic, and once the record is on it, you can't see it anyway.
I live in Oakland, CA and this is for local pick-up only.
